Legends of Tomorrow - 'Pilot: Part 1'

Up on the roof...
Faced with the global conquest of Vandal Savage in the 23rd century and the apathy of his peers, Time Master Rip Hunter steals a timeship and recruits/kidnaps a team of 'future legends' to combat Savage through time: Ray 'Atom' Palmer; Sara 'Canary' Lance; Martin Stein and Jefferson Jackson, the constituents of the binary hero Firestorm; Leonard 'Captain Cold' Snart and Mick 'Heatwave' Roary; and Carter Hall and Kendra Saunders, the current incarnations of Hawkman and Hawkgirl, the only beings capable of striking a fatal blow to Savage.

"Buckle up, kiddies; it's going to be a bumpy ride."
Yeah, that last bit is important. As you may recall, Savage was asploded in the 'Legends of Yesterday' episode of Arrow, but apparently Nth metal artefacts and death rays aren't enough if one of Savage's reincarnating nemeses doesn't deliver the fatal stroke.

Drawn by various motives - a feeling that his life amounted to very little, a desire to establish a new identity post-resurrection, scientific curiosity, a knockout drug administered by a partner driven by scientific curiosity, the lure of knicking stuff and getting into fights, the need to confront Savage, and a pushy sort-of-boyfriend who feels a need to confront Savage - the team assembles and travels to the 1970s, where they contact the only man ever to be any kind of expert on Vandal Savage: Aldus Boardman, whose work helped with the first defeat of Vandal Savage.

What is the 70s without a little reckless endangerment?
Knowing that Boardman will die in 1975, Hunter takes the team to speak to him; well, half of them, leaving Sara, Snart and Roary to rip it up in a seventies bar fight and Jefferson sitting on his heels. Kendra is stunned to learn that Boardman is the son of a past reincarnation who saw his parents murdered by Savage and insists he not be left to die. When the team has to fight back into the timeship past Chronus, a temporal bounty hunter in the service of the Time Masters, Boardman is hit and dies soon after.

Hunter confesses that he is an ex-Time Master, and that this is a personal mission since his wife and son were killed by Savage during the Second Blitz. He also admits that he picked his team, not because they were legends, but because they were nobodies; highly talented, but leaving no significant historical trace to be negated by their involvement. After much soul searching, however, they decide that they are in, and that they will blaze a trail in history whether history likes it or not.
