Trailer Trash - Rogue One

That's right; here comes the hype train. Whoo-whoo!

There have been plenty of reactions to this one already, ranging from 'this looks like the Star Wars film I've always wanted' to 'another female lead? But what about the mens?' I'll try to find something vaguely original to say.

My first impression with this was how superbly it manages to combine looking absolutely, one hundred percent like a Star Wars movie with looking like a modern film. Maybe these AT-AT walkers are moving way better than their predecessors, but they look just like them. The uniforms, the Yavin base hangar, even Mon Mothma; everything is perfect, but none of it looks dated.

I like the look of the lead. She's spiky and explicitly rebellious, but is neither a cocky chancer like Han or a frustrated kid like Luke, which means that she is something new, and that's important because it means that the beats of her story will be different. Looking back at The Force Awakens, one of the great things about it was that Rey and Finn each brought a new perspective to the universe, and it looks like that trend is going to continue.

There are also black and Asian actors in there, so it's good to see the Star Wars anti-white crusade going strong.
