12 Monkeys - 'Resurrection'

"This is so much fun it's freaky!"
In 2044, shit is getting real.

The Red Forest is at the gates, and the team is falling apart. As more and more people lose faith in Jones, Cole's mission to 1957 to save the last primary is imperiled as a group of disgruntled scientists and guards work with Railly and Ramse to hijack the machine for a cross-country, spatial leap to Titan for a final confrontation with the Witness. It seems increasingly clear that they don't consider this so much a hope as a final fuck you to their enemy. It doesn't matter if they lose, so long as the Witness isn't allowed to win.

"Enough crazy for ya?"
Increasingly desperate, Cole teams up with Deacon and the daughters to take back the facility, but things go awry when Ramse baits Deacon and a stray shot hits Jennifer. Fortunately, Jennifer has planned for this, having seen the date of her death on the Monkeys' board, and sends Cole to bring her younger self to the future, providing her Daughters with a promised 'resurrection'. She tells her that she has a choice to make: Cole has to go to 1957, but she can sit tight and hope Cole saves the day, or lead the rest of the group cross-country to Titan. When she was young Jennifer, she chose to stay, so on some level that seems to work, but with her older self's encouragement, Jennifer chooses to lead the Daughters to war.

Damn.
Cole is sent to 1957, followed by Railly, who finally realises that hunting the Witness is just a form of running from what he did to her. Jennifer leads a convoy out of the facility, but Jones is cut off by the anomalies and consumed along with the Machine.

'Resurrection' continues the season's trend of playing up the importance of the previously tangential Jennifer, and cracks the tough facade that Railly has been maintaining since being sent to the future. With two episodes to go in Season 2, we're all set for a very big finish, and a third season in the works for 2017. After a slightly shaky opening, 12 Monkeys has become a firm favourite with me, and I hope it is able to continue to expand its mythology without going too weird.
